Girl Scouts
          Horse Rider” Badge 

 Junior Girl Scouts will complete activities 
                 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. 
    (On page 107 of the Junior Badge book) 

      Badges will be awarded at the end. 
     This event will take approx. 3 hours. 
           The cost is $40.00 per scout
                 (minimum of six girls). 
  Payment due at the time of reservation.
       Please have girls bring a bottle of
     water, a healthy snack and their
                        bike helmet.
        All participants need to wear old 
 jeans, boots or tennis shoes with their
                          hair up. 
      One certified adult per every three
                    scouts required.   
                     NO tagalongs (non-scouts).
               NO sandals or crocks.  

Activity # 1 – Get Ready to Ride
  • Saddle & bridle a horse
  • Explain the care and use of the tack

Activity # 3  – In Good Form

  • Learn how to mount and dismount a horse correctly
  • Demonstrate turning and stopping a horse in a walk

Activity # 4 – Clips, Combs and More

  • Learn how to groom a horse before and after riding.
  • Learn the barn safety rules

Activity #5 – Ride On

  • Mount a horse and ride accompanied around the fenced rin

Activity # 6 – Horses, Safety and You

  • Learn safety regulations for riding, including required rider equipment.

Activity # 8 – New Skills 

  • Learn and practice two new riding skills.
  • Proper posture on a horse.
  • How to balance over your center.

“Horse Fan” Badge

  
Junior Girl Scouts will complete
activies 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8.

Badges will be awarded at the end.
This event will take approx. 3 hours.
Please have girls bring a bottle of
water and a healthy snack.
The cost is 30.00 per scouts
(minimum of six girls).
Payment due at the time of reservation.
One certified adult per every three scouts required.  
All participants need to wear old jeans, boots or tennis shoes with their hair up.
NO tagalongs (non-scouts).
NO sandals or crocks.

 

Activity # 1 - “On the Trail:

  • Prices for riding: lessons, leasing a horse, and boarding a horse
  • “Specialty”, explain the differences between English vs. Western
  • Information about instructions, horse requirements, indoor & outdoor rings, and riding trails
  • Difference between owning & leasing a horse

Activity # 2 – Caring for Horses:

  • The general care of a horse (farrier, vet, dentist etc)
  • Feeding, hay and acceptable treats
  • Everyday care in a stable

Activity # 3 – Fashion and Fiction:

  • We will show safe & correct clothing options for horse riding
  • Review safety features in footwear, pants, jackets and helmets

Activity # 6 – Make a Career of Riding:   

  • Explore 3 careers associated with horses (Large Animal Vetinarian, Equine Massage Therapist, and Equine Physical Therapy).

Activity # 7 – Ease with Equipment:

  • Explain the basic parts of the saddle and bridle; how they contribute to the comfort of the horse & rider
  • Demonstrate saddling and bridling of a horse.

Activity # 8 – Horse ‘Tales’:

  • The troop should watch Secretariat movie prior to the visit. 
  • The scouts should have 1 question from the movie to ask.
